I left school particularly interested in building and business, so the decision was to either do a building apprenticeship or go to university and study business. I choose to do an apprenticeship because of the physical nature of building, being outside and getting to stand back and see what you’ve achieved at the end of each week. When I decided to start RUSA Construction I got to explore more of the business side of things and this is a journey I’ve really enjoyed.

At work, I’m all about getting the job done to a high-quality standard, working with subcontractors and clients, developing systems, solving problems and overcoming challenges. I get a lot of fulfilment out of seeing our clients celebrate the home or space of their dreams. I also have a huge amount of pride in the team we’ve created at RUSA, all our senior staff have been with us for over 10 years – something I credit to our success.

In my spare time you’ll find me in the hills hunting or tramping, generally enjoying the great outdoors. I’m also a family man and love spending time with my kids – two boys & a girl, a regular on the sports field side-line cheering them on.

Working at RUSA means I can be hands-on, creative, keep active, and work on a range of jobs – every project is different. And I like working with clients who know what they want and are happy to pay a little bit more to achieve it. I’m fortunate to work in such a great team where everybody gets on, and we work together to make RUSA the best it can be.

I enjoy watching my kids take part in their activities, and I play football and golf. I’m grateful for my parents’ guidance, and my wife and kids always encourage me to be the best I can be.

I am where I am because rugby didn’t work out. Growing up, I’ve always been a hands-on person, so a career in building was the obvious choice. Outside of work, I go to church, play sports and train, and watch home and renovation shows (another Grand Designs fan). I love hanging out with my family and wife as they keep me humble and motivated.

I enjoy the challenges of being a foreman, seeing my clients satisfied, and feeling that sense of accomplishment when a job is done. We all come from different backgrounds, but when it comes down to work, the team at RUSA are all striving for excellence. I like working with different types of clients, but especially those who have faith in our processes and systems, and the belief that we are capable of building or renovating the home of their dreams.

As a qualified joiner, I decided to go to building so that I could broaden my skills. Building feels like a much bigger game and I learn something new every day. I like soaking in all the knowledge from the experienced guys and working with easy going clients.

I enjoy the work culture at RUSA and the bond that us boys have both in and outside of work. In my spare time, I like to exercise and play sports like touch-rugby and boxing. I love spending time with my family and my parents inspire me to work hard and aim high.

I enjoy that building is an active, hands on job and I find the visual progress very rewarding. Every project is different providing plenty of variety and there is always new challenges.

In my spare time you’ll find me out in nature either surfing, hiking or taking photos. When I’m not outside I enjoy music and playing guitar.

I love the positive and encouraging culture at Rusa as well as the great team spirit.

I’m an apprentice who is inspired by excellence, as there is always another skill to learn or technique to perfect. My ideal client is friendly, easy going and excited about their project.

Every day in my job is different. Like Tom, I love the feeling of standing back and seeing what we’ve built together. Being an apprentice at RUSA means I get to share in the great team bond and it makes working life easier, more fun, and more productive. I like clients who also have a sense of fun and don’t take themselves too seriously.

My family inspires me. I like spending time with them and keeping active by playing sports.

I got into building as I was looking for a job with variety that would allow me to do something different every day. Working with RUSA offered just that. We work on a range of different projects that always keep me engaged, made even better by a great bunch of colleagues.

The parts I love most about this job is that you’re always learning and always finding new techniques or ways to hone your craft. That and being able to look back at the end of a job and think with pride “I did that”.

In my spare time, you’ll find me playing/building guitars, throwing a round of disc golf or hanging out with my best mate – Twitch the dog.

After five years as a chef, I wanted a big change, to work outside and learn new skills. Building is exactly what I was looking for. As an apprentice builder I get to enjoy the good mood on-site and share the focus of getting a job well done. I like working with clients who are friendly, patient and positive.

I relax by doing Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, surfing, and reading. I admire people who are motivated to help others.

Building was the last thing on my mind for a career path but since working for RUSA, I’ve learnt to love the job as well as the team. Every day is different and I am always learning on the job. The bond the boys have is unmatched. And you’ll be sure to hear some banter if you’re ever on-site.
Music is my passion and outside of work you’ll find me making beats, spending time with my partner or with my family.
I love staying active in my spare time, whether it’s Saturday touch rugby with the boys, volley with the church family or hitting the gym with my partner.

Working part time in administration for RUSA is a lot of fun! I’ve been with the team since July of 2021. RUSA is a real family business where everyone supports each other to get things done.

It’s great to be able to keep up-to-date with efficient ways to run a business; and make things as smooth as possible for our clients.

My background is in town planning; which I worked in for 10 years, prior to having my two children. In my spare time you’ll find me hanging with my family, or maybe out for a run.

Testimonials

David Mack, Southern Cross Hospital

“I found that the team was professional, polite, efficient and most importantly the finished result is fantastic! The team was on time every day and worked hard to assist us getting the building reopened ahead of schedule.”

Joanna and Neil Cowie

“We engaged Rusa Construction to complete a renovation project at our family home in Murray’s Bay. From the outset Kent’s level of service and engagement was Easy and Straight forward. Kent kept us informed of progress with e-mails all the time and was always available to discuss, provide guidance and implement changes and variations we requested.

The quality of workmanship in our opinion is “craftsman like” resulting in a job completed to a very high standard, not only to our agreed budget, but also on time.

We would have no problem in recommending Rusa Construction to any prospective client and look forward to working with them again on our next project.”

Rod Slater

“I would like to record my absolute satisfaction on a job recently completed for us by Rusa Construction.

We own a beach house at Te Ngaere Bay in the far north of the North Island. Rusa Construction was appointed to re clad the building with redwood weatherboards. The job was carried out at a most difficult time of the year (June/July) with significant rainfall and storm conditions.

In spite of the conditions the job was finished very close to on time and very close to estimate. More importantly the quality of the workmanship was of the highest order.

I would most certainly be very happy to use Rusa Construction again and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a reliable, honest and skilful company. Kent and his team at Rusa are refreshing people to deal with.”

Wendy Dunning

“Thank you for a great job, Buzz and I are very pleased with the outcome. All the guys in your team who came and worked here were great – they were all so polite and worked hard. I appreciate all your communication in keeping us up to date with what was happening.”
